DIRUTIL REV 19.4
Chuck Maier
Written in Latice C (4.0)
Original: Chris Nicotra
Revisions: Dave Jubusch
Rev 1.4: Rich Medved
I have spent the many months cleaning up and furthur improving this
utillity adding new and better modules as I learn the Amiga system.
Its felt that this utillity goes very well on the root directory
of your RAM disk or workbench. Try it... you'll like it. Use it for a
while, and you will never be without it!!
First, let me say this is PUBLIC DOMAIN... you can give it away,
use it yourself... but you can't sell it!! ALSO... its NOT to be uploaded
anywhere that claims it as their own. I OWN it... but its yours to use!!
There is a full set of menu's provided for quick reference. I won't
go into a full set of instructions here for that reason. Just the following
notes may be necessary......
1. Your C: directory MUST have:
(a) 'ED' (whatever editor you like)
(b) 'CD'
(c) 'COPY'
2. In order to have FULL functionality (note ... OPTIONAL)....
(a) 'ARC' should be in your C: directory
(b) a drawer icon (named 'EMPTY.INFO') should be on your ram disk.
If 'C:ARC' is on your workbench... the DEARC button will be activated
and you will be able to DE-ARC files. With the present version (16 or above)
you can de-arc as many files as you like at one time. Be advised though,
a file de-arced takes as much as 50% MORE space than its ARCed version and
the .arc file will also REMAIN. Just make sure you have enough room!!
This is kind of a neet function since the de-arc'd files will be directed
to its own sub-directory.
example: If you de-arc a file RAM:DUTIL.ARC... a sub-directory will
be created named DUTIL-A and all files from the de-archive
operation will end up in this new directory. Also of note...
if the startup code found a drawer icon named EMPTY.INFO
on the ram-disk... a drawer icon will be attatched to the new
subdirectory and renamed DUTIL-A.INFO. Since most people
like to use the workbench enviorenment to do do things...
you can rename it from the workbench menu-bar and copy it off
to a save disk or where-ever by simply slide-copying the
drawer icon. What could be easier??
If you feel that you don't want to bother putting an EMPTY.INFO drawer
icon on your ram disk... OK!! Everything else will work just fine but
no drawer icon will be provided for de-arc and Makedir subdirectories.
I find its easier to keep it there, myself, and I use the startup-
sequence to put it there... along with dutil itself.
As I mentioned earlier... if you aren't going to use de-arc facillities;
you don't HAVE to have 'C:ARC' available. You just won't be able to
get to the button.
Basic operation... Click on a filename or more and perform a button-
push of one of the button gadgets on the right side to initiate an
operation. For an explaination of 'what-does-what'... read through
the menus! Thats what they are there for!!!

Version 14.2
The big whaho in this version is the inclusion of support for
FILENOTE information. Thanks to some help from the "C" corps of PLINK
I find I can include this in this revision.
If a file has a filenote... and you click on it... the filenote will
appear in the ERROR gadget. If you want to add a filenote to a file...
1. click select a file
2. type a filenote in the 'E' gadget. The gadget will scroll but
Filenote will allow 80 chars ONLY.
3. click on the new 'COMENT' button gadget.
4. VOILLA.... you have a filenote attatched... what could be easier????

Version 17.0
Well, three complete revisions later and many many beta tests later....
revision 17.0 is finally ready!
First..., you have a new button... called 'ProTek' and this will TOGGLE
the DELETE flag on the file(s) you have selected. A file (or subdirectory)
that is protected from deletion will appear in BLUE.
Second..., if you press a button that requires you select a file to
operate on and you did NOT.. a requestor appears to alert you to the fact.
You may have thought an operation had completed (perhaps COPY), and then
you may delete the file from the current directory. This has happened at one of
my beta sites on a few occaisions... so now you will KNOW!
Third..., better error checking is implimented on the 'MvCOPY' button
operation to insure the copy sucessfully completed before the original
file is deleted. There were several possibilities that were NOT taken into
account.
Fourth..., an annoyance is addressed! When you de-arc or makedir AND
there is an EMPTY.INFO drawer icon available... the new icon produced
used to have the same screen position as the Empty.info icon.... so you
had to "un-pile" them in order to see them, slide-copy them or rename them.
When I check for the availabillity of the icon, I replace the icon's screen
location (encoded in the icon) and therefore causes intuition to
seek out a 'clear' place for these icons.

Version 17.5
At last I get one on Commodore/Amiga. It has always been my contention
that a file's comment (filenote) should be copied along with the file
when you copy the file. Well, now this omission is addressed. My dutil
will copy the filenote ALONG with the file!!! If you went to the trouble
to put a filenote on a file... why wouldn't you want it to appear on any
future COPIES of a file??? Well, if you use Dutil.. it WILL!!
*******************
Rev18.0
A complete rewrite of the TYPE button!! Any line that would WRAP
the screen or has ESCAPE sequences or some other display-disorienting
code is TAMED!! The result is; almost any file you choose to TYPE
will leave the display is a USEABLE and understandable form.
NOTE: if a line is senced to WRAP the screen... the WRAP portion
will be prefixed with '[+]' in column 1-3 of the NEXT line and the actual
NEXT PAGE will not be comprimised!!

Rev18.5 - 18.7
A hearty welcome to the narrator device. Yes boys and girls.. I've
added speech to Dutil. I could have gone nuts on this one... but
only ERROR messages and 'comments' are spoken (for emphasis, I guess)!

Rev19.0
The 'Psound' button has been added. This will allow you to play
an IFF file with an optional REPEAT count by entering a number into the
'E' gadget prior to clicking on the Psound button. Caution: range
checking will only allow a repeat count of 20.
note: If you enter NO count... it defaults to '1'!!.
*************************
Rev19.2
Several minor problems were addressed.. including error checking
on the Psound button choices. If you tried to 'play' a directory
entry (what dummy would??) you would lock up the amiga. Error checking
sure does eat up the bytes just to protect you from being stupid!!
Also, at some point.. SINFO and DINFO would both return the
size of SINFO's freedom. It was a bug caused by my editor but now
fixed!!
*************************
Rev19.4
Psound will allow repeat count and now a DELAY variable. This data
is entered into the "E" gadget. The repeat count is limited to 20. The
DELAY value is a number of AMIGA TICS (50 per second). The data is
entered as ...
[repeats] <delim> [delay between repeats]
The delimiter can be any of the following.... Space, Comma, Slash,
Colon, Semicolon.
Entering '12 110' in the E gadget will play the sound file 12 times and
delay 2 seconds between each.
Enjoy.....
